Great Great Grandfather Hallett with the new Hallett Bros "Contractors" Korumbarra horse drawn coach. The Hallett family lived in Outrim just south of Leongatha after immigrating from Staffordshire England in the late 1800's. Grandpa Hallett served in both world wars with the No4 tunnelling company - the origin of the name "Diggers".
The Hallett family and their New Diamond T model 80 pickup truck. My Great uncle in the pickup and my Great Great Grandfather with Great Great Grandmother, representing the family's entrepreneurial spirit in rural Victoria.
My Grandmother Dorothy and Grandfather Frank Gunn settled in Carrajung lower on what is now "Gunns" Road. Frank served throughout WWII from the Middle East to Papua New Guinea. A remarkable story includes a letter he tossed overboard in a tin can, found 3 years after the war and delivered to Dorothy.

A highwayman who, along with his accomplice William Steel, robbed Sir George Farmer and others of their gold watches and chains in July 1783. He was sentenced to death for this crime but received a reprieve and was instead to be transported to Africa for seven years. However, he escaped and was later caught, spending time on prison hulks before being transported to New South Wales on the Scarborough in the First Fleet.
After time served, James became the Government Baker at Parramatta and was known for his honesty, sobriety, and punctuality in his new role. He also became a member of the Parramatta Loyal Association and played a role in quashing the convict uprising of 1804 at Mogoaillee (Castle Hill) in Bidjigal Country. Despite his efforts to gain a land grant later in life, James was unsuccessful. He died in 1825.
James Wright's wife, convicted of assault and sentenced to transportation for life. She arrived in Sydney Cove on the Mary Ann in 1791 (3rd fleet) and started using the name Letitia Holland after her arrival in the colony. She married James Wright in 1810 and they had four children together. She died in 1827.
Government Aircraft Factory
Evan's father with engineering team
My father is from Maryborough Victoria and spent his working life as an Electronics Engineer specialising in weapons guidance/Autopilot systems and Target drone telemetry. He worked as the chief engineer at Government Aircraft Factory that later became Australian Aerospace Technologies where he ended his tenure as the CEO. His expertise in advanced military aviation systems represents the modern evolution of the family's journey from First Fleet convicts to leaders in Australian aerospace technology.
Present Day Family Life
Evan and his daughter in South Gippsland
My daughter and I live just outside Foster Victoria. We moved here in 2017 from Melbourne's southeastern suburbs. However, given our family history, what we did was come home. I cannot think of a better place to live than South Gippsland except for the winters!
35+ years of leadership and innovation across electronics, automotive, and product development industries.
I embarked on my career at the tender age of 17, leaving TAFE college after studying Basic Electronics. My first role was as an electronics process worker, assembler making computer peripherals for Apple II computers.
This role was just the beginning of a life journey that would become a full circle spanning over 35 years, where I ended up specialising in electronics manufacturing and design, spending a significant amount of time in electronics factories throughout Asia and even the EU. In the years that followed my electronics assembler work, I worked as an Electronics Technician, fixing electric fence energisers, A computer "Tech Support guy" for a small home computer retail chain and many jobs as a computer salesman in mail order, retail and B2B settings for various companies.
In late 1989 I took a break from the computer industry to become a Car radio salesman as a "Summer job" with my flat mate that was also from the Computer industry, To my surprise I loved it and stuck around well beyond that summer to manage that store. Whilst I was supposed to spend most of my time on the retail floor I was never far away from the work shop solving problems and that led to me being hired as a flight line Avionics Maintenance Engineer by one of my customers who at the time was the head Avionics engineer for the Victoria police air wing and was wanting to branch out on his own.
Whilst I loved this work, it did not pay as well as the car radio business and I was soon lured back. This paved the way for me to become a custom car builder and state workshop manager, building High end Car sound systems and competing in car shows that won numerous Australian and international awards as well as training the next generation of installers.
From there, I caught a lucky break. Due to my extensive experience and notoriety in the automotive/electronics industry, I was hired by a National automotive group to become their National Category Manager for Mobile Electronics, a role I then applied to the Power Tool industry as a National Category Manager for Power Garden and Power Tools for Australia's second largest Hardware retailer.
My most recent "adventure" started as a Product Manager and developed into the VP of Marketing and Product Development for a company that started out as a relatively small Mobile electronics accessory wholesale distributor that over time, became a category-dominant supplier in its field. I also managed the company's IT systems, developed its IOT Tracking platform and managed a staff of approximately 12 Engineers and managers.
This role was equivalent to a sectional General Manager's role but was renamed to be more relevant to international personnel, reflecting my extensive time spent working overseas. My success in this roll was my hands on knowledge of Electronics manufacture at a time when Chinese Manufacturing was still in its infancy. I managed the end to end process from research, design and procurement through to manufacturing hand off, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and quality control.
After 16.5 years of dedicated service, I decided to leave this role in November 2023 to first take a break and then looking for a new change where I can apply my unique blend of skills and experience in a new direction, I am excited about the opportunities that may lie ahead.

During my tenure at TDJ I found/identified many new product categories and opportunities, Including new suppliers that have helped the business flourish over the time that I spent there.
A company is only as good as its people and by extension I always know that if they (My team) are doing well I'm doing well so that's what I focus on. No matter how good I am in a practical sense you cannot achieve great things on your own so the hiring and maintaining of a good team is critical. I have always felt my success at TDJ was based on my team's successes.
How well we all got along was in sync with our productivity. Most of my time at TDJ never felt like "Work", it always felt like a calling. "A Vocation". I have left TDJ but I will have many friends for life going forward from current to ex employees. It was a wonderful ride and I am still doing some contract work for them.

As a passionate videographer, I bring technical expertise and creative vision to every project. My experience spans from commercial product marketing videos to real estate showcases, logo animations, and training materials. Each project combines storytelling with technical precision to deliver compelling visual narratives.
Using professional-grade equipment and advanced post-production techniques, I create content that not only meets client objectives but exceeds expectations. The portfolio below showcases the breadth of my videography work, from high-end marketing campaigns to specialized training content, all crafted with work, from high-end marketing campaigns to specialized training content, all crafted with attention to detail and creative excellence.
I have a vast width and breadth of experience from hands-on trade skills to highly technical understanding of automotive systems, electronics design, and factory production methods. I'm always exploring and learning.
I enjoy a wide range of leisure activities. However, most of the time you can find me pottering around the house on my tractor or tinkering in my workshop or in the garden whenever the weather is good and I get the chance. I enjoy boating and fishing but I am a terrible fisherman. Pretty much anything near water or nature is a great way to spend quality time with friends or in solitude.
I have travelled extensively around the world with over 1 million flyer miles under my belt. Whilst I have seen my share of the world's wonders and beauty, I am happiest sitting on my grass looking up at the sky for an afternoon. Home is the best place on earth.
My home features a high-end audio system that doubles as a commercial PA setup. The large tower speakers were completely designed and built by myself, including all woodwork, wiring, computer modeling of acoustic performance, and 3D mechanical design.
I built this bass guitar from a kit, incorporating custom woodwork and precision assembly. The instrument won an award for best custom-built guitar, showcasing the same attention to detail and craftsmanship that goes into all my projects.
My daughter and I also engage in go karting when time permits. We've built a wonderful life together in South Gippsland, where we're surrounded by the natural beauty of Victoria and connected to our family's deep historical roots in the region.
